Chicago, March 3rd, 2024 – Hizb ut Tahrir / America hosted its annual Khilafah Conference, themed “Gaza: Crises and Solution – The Role of Muslims in America.” This event is part of a global campaign commemorating the abolishment of the Khilafah (Caliphate) in 1924. This significant event continued our practice of engaging with urgent global and community issues, reflecting on a century of challenges facing Muslims worldwide and proposing Islamic solutions, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza and its broader implications for the Muslim Ummah.
This year’s conference illuminated the historical and ongoing struggles of Muslims, with particular attention to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, exploring the consequences of a century without the protective shield of a Khilafah. The insightful talks included “100 Years Without a Shield” by Sheik Muhammed Shirazi and “Palestine: The Untold Story” by Dr. Osman Bakhach, examining the historical intricacies and the resilient attitude of the Muslim Ummah amidst colonial and contemporary adversities. Dr. Ghazi Salim captivated attendees with his moving recitation of the “Khilafah Flood” poem, beautifully encapsulating the conference’s themes.
Samer Abu Omar’s address, ‘Gaza: The Role of Muslims in America,’ emphasized how Muslims in America can advocate for sustained proactive support and solidarity with their fellow Muslims to reestablish the Khilafah. His talk aimed to mobilize support, encourage unity, and inspire action toward alleviating the crises facing Muslims in Gaza and globally.
Our community’s strong participation and positive feedback reflected a deep commitment to comprehending these issues and a dedication to Islamic activism. The conference aimed to inform and empower attendees to make a meaningful contribution to the Ummah’s future, advocating for justice and the reinstatement of the Khilafah.
